The task was to create a reimagined classic-contemporary garden, where the elegance of a parterre layout complements immersive living areas with refined structure and charm.
Every vantage is carefully considered, from inside the home to neighboring buildings, offering framed views through sculptural raised planters, pots, and foliage. At the heart of the design lies a central paved lounging terrace—flagged in porcelain—that anchors the space. Radiating from it is a sun-bathed deck before the hot tub and pool, creating a seamless extension from the house’s entertainment areas. Raised trellis beds act as green partitions, discreetly screening a utility vehicle path and neighbouring views while dividing the garden into purposeful rooms within the garden. A gently rising lawn guides the eye toward an outdoor gym, complemented by a composite deck and an adjacent children’s play nook. At the garden’s end, a designated utility area is clearly defined and easily accessed via connecting paths. The front driveway is enhanced with extra parking surfaced in resin-bound aggregate and clay pavers, bordered by wide planting beds and hedging to soften the frontage. Mature trees, topiary evergreens, mixed shrubs, and herbaceous planting provide texture, structure, and year-round appeal, delivering the architectural backbone characteristic of Mediterranean-inspired parterre gardens. Water is central to this experience: a moving water feature—possibly integrated with rockwork of some sort—adds sound, movement, and a sculptural focal point. The layout itself draws from parterre principles—geometric beds, gravel paths, formal hedging—designed to be appreciated from within the home and experienced at a human scale. Mediterranean plant palettes—bold perennials, scented shrubs, and evergreen topiary in the form of yew balls—ensure seasonal interest and effortless beauty. Climbing vines on trellises soften structural lines, while contemporary concrete pots bring texture and formality. Using high-quality materials—resin-bound surfaces, clay pavers, porcelain stone, composite decking, and steel trellis elements—this design upholds the site’s high-end character. It blends parterre formality with contemporary family living, creating a versatile landscape that’s perfect for entertaining, relaxation, play, exercise, and functional garden use. |
